Shomair Yisrael Messianic Jewish Congregation Theological Statement

God: We believe in the God of the whole Bible (both the Hebrew Scriptures and the Brit Chadasha (usually called the New Testament), and that He is all-powerful, omni-present, eternal, exists outside of creation, and infinitely significant and benevolent. We believe according to Is 48:16b that God is 3 in 1; Father, Son and Holy Spirit - One God.

The Messiah: Yeshua (Jesus) is the promised Jewish Messiah. He is God in the flesh, and the Torah made flesh (John 1:14).

Written Torah: We consider the written Torah (Pentateuch), the five books of Moses, to remain fully in force and a holy covenant, to be observed both morally and ritually. We believe that Yeshua taught and re-affirmed the Torah, rather than doing away with it. We keep Shabbat as taught in the Scripture and keep kashrut (dietary laws).

Israel: We believe that the Children of Israel (Jewish people) were, remain, and will continue to be the chosen people of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and are central to his eternal plans. We specifically oppose Replacement theology.

The Bible: The Tanakh (usually referred to as the Old Testament) and New Testament (referred to above as the B’rit Chadasha) are the established and divinely inspired Biblical scripture.  The Bible as described above is the inspired and inerrant Word of God.  It is to be obeyed in our lives today and forever. (2 Tim 3:16, 17)

Eschatology: We believe in the End of Days there will be a second coming of Yeshua as the conquering Messiah, the re-gathering and salvation of all Israel, a rebuilt Third Temple, a Resurrection of the Dead (and that Yeshua was resurrected after his death), and the millennial reign of Yeshua in His established Kingdom.

Oral Torah: We believe the "Oral Torah" (the Talmud) must be viewed in the light of New Covenant realities (it must be seen through the lens of the NT).  The oral traditions are always subservient to the written Torah.
